The Biennial organizes two events at the Urban Thinkers Campus

From 15 to 18 October, Caserta’s Belvedere di San Leucio hosted the Urban Thinkers Campus, an initiative of UN-Habitat in association with the Universal Forum of Cultures of Naples and Campania. Its goal was to collect innovative ideas for the “New Urban Agenda” to be adopted at the next United Nations’ Conference on Housing and Sustainable Urban Development, to be held in 2016.

INU and  the Biennial of Public Space organized two of the conference’s twenty events .. An Urban Thinkers Lab was focused on Public Space Towards the New Urban Agenda. In this Lab, the experiences of the City of Naples, represented by Dr. Daniela Bonanno, was debated. A second “Urban Thinkers Session”, organized in partnership with the World Secretariat of the United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG) debated the gender dimension of public Space, mobility, and safer cities.

The Urban Thinkers, organized in constituency groups, worked on the rielaboration of the principles contained in the “City We Need”, a participated document to act as an input to the New Urban Agenda for the Habitat III conference. The main output of this work, from the Biennial’s point of view, was the inclusion of a principle on public space in the document, supported especially by representatives of youth and children groups.

The proposed new principle claims:

“The city we need has open and accessible public spaces.”
